Meg Ryan

Blue-eyed blonde with an effervescent personality, Meg Ryan was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra in Fairfield, Connecticut, to Susan (Duggan) (Duggan), the English teacher and one-time actress, and Harry Hyra, a math teacher. Ruthenian as well as Polish, Irish, German, and German descendents. "Hyra" is her maternal grandmother's maiden name, is Ruthenian. Meg was graduated in June 1979 Bethel high school, Bethel. Meg moved to New York City and studied journalism at New York University. Meg Ryan is her name change, started acting to earn extra cash while she was completing her education. Her first screen appearance came in 1981 with a short appearance as Candice Bergen's daughter in George Cukor's final film Rich and Famous (1981). She was chosen for the part as Betsy in the TV soap As the World Turns (1956) after she tried out. The show starred her from 1982 to 1984. Meg also had a part in the TV series One of the Boys (1982) but the show was soon cancelled. In 1984, Meg moved to Hollywood and was offered a part in the western-themed television series Wildside (1985). Meg was in a small part in Top Gun (1986), later being included in Steven Spielberg's Innerspace (1987) which was a film in which she starred with Dennis Quaid. In the remake of D.O.A., she starred again alongside Dennis Quaid. (1988), and were married on Saint Valentine's Day 1991. Meg played the lead role in When Harry Met Sally... (1989), which made the scene in the restaurant famous. Meg was nominated twice for the Golden Globe and BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. In 1993, she starred with Tom in Sleepless in Seattle (1993) in which she was again nominated for the Golden Globe. In 1994, Meg decided to act against type when she appeared as the wife of an alcoholic and mother in the film When a Man Loves a Woman (1994). Following that, Meg returned to her "cute" I.Q. (1994) as well as French Kiss (1996). People Magazine named Meg "Woman of the Year" in 1994 with the Harvard Hasty Pudding Award.
